Hunting and Fishing Access
Southern Johnson County and the Kaycee – Powder River area is popular for hunting and fishing. Access to most of the land in the area is restricted due to private land ownership and limited public access through locked gates can be frustrating at the best of times. Hunters coming to the area for the first time need to do their homework early in the year, before purchasing a license in an area you are not familiar with.
Here are two resources you can rely on to make your hunting trip successful:
Hunters can find Walk in Areas, Hunter Management Areas and maps on the Access Yes pages. Hunters desiring private landowner information can look up names on the Johnson County Wyoming Map Server. Many licensed guides also direct hunting and fishing in the area. You can check the status of a potential guide or outfitter on the State of Wyoming Board of Outfitters and Professional Guides Site.
